Herbal Home Remedy: Ginger Root for Motion Sickness
April 8, 2007 |
Ginger root is an herb that is often used in cooking in Asia, Arabia, China and India. It is also used as a form of herbal medicine in these countries for more than 2,000 years. Through scientific testing, ginger root is now also being used in the western world of natural healing.
One of the great benefits of ginger root is its use in cases of motion sickness. Ginger is a wonderful herbal home remedy that helps soothe your stomach if you are prone to motion sickness. Studies indicate that people who are about to board planes, trains, boats or those preparing for long car trips should take 1,500 mg of ginger approximately a half an hour before they begin their travels.
Either eat ginger raw or in capsule form. You can also prepare this herbal home remedy in the form of ginger tea. The last option is to drink a 12-ounce glass of ginger ale.
Ginger is believed to work just as well if not better than Dramamine at relieving the undesirable symptoms of motion sickness. It would be a good idea to pack a bottle of ginger tablets or capsules with you for the return trip home.
If you have already embarked on your journey, ginger is not as effective. For best results, ginger needs to be taken ahead of time so the body can digest it.
