Herbal Remedy For Sports Injuries: Comfrey
July 15, 2007 |
A herbal remedy for sport injuries is the comfrey. It has been used for
centuries to heal bone ractures and was populary known as knit bone back then. Recent
research showed that comfrey contains a substance called allantoin which promotes healthy growth and development of bones, cartilage and muscles.
Allantoin is found in the the leaves, but other parts of plant such as the aerial parts and the flowers are also used to prepare herbal remedies for relieving the symptoms of arthritis and other physical injuries. Varicose ulcers are one ailment that is commonly treated by the comfrey plant root. Harvesting the root of the comfrey plant should be done in the spring and in the fall when the allantoin levels are higher.
You can find many herbal remedy creams for sports injuries containing comfrey. Comfrey can also found in infused oils for treating arthritic pain and joints, bruises, sprains, and other traumatic injuries. More traditional herbalists apply a pureed fresh comfrey leave poultice to minor fractures. These fractures would otherwise usually need a cast, including hairline fractures, broken toes, or broken ribs. Finally, if you often play sports and are prone to getting broken bones, then you should consume comfrey in the form of a herbal remedy tea on a regular basis.
