Natural Treatment For Depression: St John’s Wort
May 25, 2007 |
A natural treatment for depression is a herb known as St John’s wort. It is made up of flavonoids, glycosides, volatile oils, resins, and tannins. The most common way to consume this natural treatment for depression is via capsules and they can be found in most health stores.
Taking St John’s wort would be a much better alternative to taking drugs for depression. Relying on synthetic drugs to help in your moods is not a good thing. For some people, drugs for depression are not effective. In others, depression drugs result in several side effects such as nausea, headaches and stomach aches.
You can also take St John’s wort as an infusion tea. The infusion can be ingested to help treat anxiety, emotional distress, and depression, but it is also used to treat menopause and PMS.
A tincture or infused oil can also be prepared from St. John’s Wort. You can use the tincture for depression and to help relieve your anxiety levels. Take several drops daily for at least two months.
You should of course find other ways to help get over your depression. Taking a break from the stressful situation, talking to a counscellor or meditation are options that you can consider.

Thanks for this post.
I once tried St. John’s Wort. It seemed to have the opposite, and completely wrong, effect on me. I found my emtions were very raw and I was often overwhelmed by rage, sadness and self pity. I took it as a pill. Have you ever heard of it having this effect? Is there a reason to think that the tea would work better?
I’ve not heard of side effects being so severe such as yours. Did you check with your doctor about this? Also, were you taking any other drugs while taking St John’s Wort herb? Don’t take the tea until you have cleared with your doctor what you should do. The thing to remember is that while this remedy is natural, it does not mean that it is completely safe. St John’s wort can have potent effects.
